5 Steps to Smooth, Silky, Frizz-Free Hair!

Our clients come to us with a myriad of hair issues. Some have hair damage and split ends. Others want bigger, fuller, more vibrant curls. And many are looking for ways to retain moisture, and add softness and shine. But by far, we hear questions like these the most:

"How can I make my hair smooth?"

"How can I eliminate frizz?"

"I want silky hair. What do I do?"

Well, you’ve asked! So, we’ve answered!

Step 1: Cleanse with a moisturizing, scalp-friendly shampoo.
Clean hair and scalp are the foundation for a healthy head of hair. Use a shampoo that cleanses hair thoroughly. But make sure it doesn’t strip or dry your hair out by avoiding cleansers with sulfates such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). Also, if you have an oily scalp, dry scalp, or dandruff, use a shampoo that will neutralize and soothe the scalp. Shampoos with oils such as maracuja oil and buriti fruit oil are good for both dry and oily scalps because they balance sebum (oil) production. They also help combat dandruff.
Step 2: Condition with a moisturizing, frizz-fighting conditioner.
Now that your hair and scalp are clean, make sure your conditioner works overtime replenishing moisture, smoothing your strands and adding shine. Look for conditioners with ingredients such as vitamin A (for shine and moisture), vitamin B12 (for conditioning) and vitamin C (for softness). Bonus points for conditioners that contain buriti fruit oil which fights frizz and helps prevent heat damage!
Step 3: Detangle and soften with a leave-in conditioner.
After conditioning, you should use a leave-in conditioner. A good leave-in will detangle your hair, provide some extra moisture, and make your hair appear silkier and shinier.  Look for a leave-in that contains wheat protein (for body and moisture), and fortifying botanicals such as spirulina and aloe (for shine), and honey (for smoothness and moisture).
Step 4: Treat and condition with a deep conditioner weekly.
If your hair is damaged (think: split ends and breakage), you should deep condition at least weekly, to start. If you find that your hair needs a bit more help, deep condition twice a week. Once your hair is in better condition, deep condition less frequently. Just like a good leave-in, a good deep conditioner will add moisture, shine and smoothness.
Step 5: Apply a humidity-fighting heat protectant.
If you use heat to style your hair, a heat protectant is a must! Make sure your heat protectant goes the extra mile by fighting humidity (the main cause of frizz) and taming fly-aways on dry hair.
